Install in under a minute

Step 1

Download and unzip

Your browser unzips it automatically. If it doesn't, double-click the file in Downloads. Keep the unzipped folder somewhere you won't delete it, because Chrome loads the extension from that folder.

Step 2

Open Chrome's extensions page

Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter. Chrome blocks links to that page, so it has to be typed.

Step 3

Turn on Developer mode, then Load unpacked

The Developer mode switch is in the top right. Then click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder. Pick the folder itself, not a file inside it.

Step 4

Sign in to Substack, then click the icon

Make sure you're signed in to Substack in this browser, then pin Substack Stats from the puzzle-piece menu and click it. Your dashboard opens in its own tab and fills itself in.

Chrome only offers Load unpacked with Developer mode on, and it will ask you to confirm that every time you restart the browser. That is Chrome being careful about software it has not reviewed, not a warning about this extension. The source is readable inside the folder you just unzipped. Substack Stats is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Substack; it reads the same numbers Substack's own pages already show you, with your own login, and sends nothing anywhere.
